Using your own domain

Got your own domain, like marksrecords.com? Your jukebox can live there, or on a part of it like jukebox.marksbar.com. Your jukekeeper.com address keeps working too.

What you need

A domain you've bought from a domain company (a "registrar", like TransIP, GoDaddy or Namecheap) and Plus. JukeKeeper doesn't sell domains: you keep yours where it is and just point it at us.

1. Tell JukeKeeper the address

In your dashboard, go to Settings → General → Your own domain, type the address exactly as visitors should use it (marksrecords.com, www.marksrecords.com or jukebox.marksbar.com) and click Use this domain. JukeKeeper then shows the record to add.

2. Add one DNS record at your registrar

Log in where you bought the domain and find its DNS settings (it might be called DNS, DNS records, DNS zone or Name servers → Manage). Add a new record. Which one depends on the address you picked:

Your addressTypeName / HostValue / Points to
The domain itself: marksrecords.comA@76.76.21.21
With www: www.marksrecords.comCNAMEwwwcname.vercel-dns.com
Any other part: jukebox.marksbar.com (Name is the part before your domain)CNAMEjukeboxcname.vercel-dns.com

Want marksrecords.com and www.marksrecords.com to both work? Add both records: JukeKeeper serves either spelling. Settings shows the second one as optional.

3. Wait a bit, then Check again

DNS changes usually show up within an hour, sometimes up to a day. Click Check again in Settings → General: it goes from "Waiting for your DNS record" to "Your DNS is set" (we're switching the domain on at our end, usually within a day) to "Live". The secure https padlock comes along automatically.

If it doesn't work

  • The Name field: "@" means the domain itself. Some registrars want it empty instead, or show the full name (jukebox.marksbar.com) and add the domain for you: then type only the part before it.
  • Old records get in the way: if there's already an A, AAAA or CNAME record with the same name (often a "parked" page from the registrar), delete it. Two records for one name and the old one may win.
  • The domain itself can't have a CNAME: use the A record for marksrecords.com, and CNAME only for www or other parts.
  • Using Cloudflare? Set the record to "DNS only" (the grey cloud), not "Proxied".
  • Email on your domain keeps working: these records don't touch your MX (mail) records, so leave those as they are.
  • Still stuck after a day? Send us a message through Feedback at the bottom of any page, with your domain, and we'll take a look.

Signing in on your own domain

Signing in with email works on both addresses. Signing in with Google only works on your jukekeeper.com address for now.

Changing or removing it

Settings → General → Your own domain has Change and Remove. Your jukekeeper.com address works the whole time. If Plus ends, visitors to your domain see a short notice with a link to your jukekeeper.com address, and it works again as soon as Plus is back.
